EVERLASTING
DREAMLAND
“Everlasting Dreamland” is a project I worked at during 2022 and 2023. The works, including
paintings and sculptures, were shown as an installation on Goldsmiths MFA degree show
2023.

It's an attempt of dream-creating, a narration of wired dreams. It all started with a desire to
“escape from reality”. Returning to my childhood room, lying on a pink bed with fluffy toys,
and then enter the dream world on the other side. There, familiar materials like fabrics and
wool form a colorful landscape: vines, wreaths, auroras, and collage surfaces spreading out
from the walls and floors.

This is the kind of thing I always see in my dreams: objects from reality randomly assembled
with fragments of memory in an elusive logic. Everything feels soft and vague, yet continuous
and progressive. I try to record dreams and study them, but in the end, I choose to see them
as phenomenon of consciousness that cannot and do not need to be rationally analyzed. The
only things I can understand are the uncertainty of dream memories, together with the sense
of both familiarity and confusion about the things in the dream after waking up. That is also
the emotion I want to convey through this work.

Paintings
Selected paintings produced during 2018 and 2021, when I was studying in China Academy of
Art. I was especially interested in landscape painting where I could explore the possibilities of
colours, lines, shapes and textures more freely.

My paintings are dispassionate: I see and record the scenes in front of me, designing them
into regular shapes and distributing them in order throughout the painting. Lines are used to
connect these shapes, and in certain areas I highlight them by making special picture textures
with paint or other materials. Figures sometimes appear in the picture, but they are always
reduced to vague shapes that become part of a unified painting language. I like vivid colours.
I will always carefully plan their positions in the picture and their relationship to each other.
Cityscapes with a variety of colours, or sunrise and sunset scenes with rich light conditions are
my favourite painting subjects.
